About the house:

Set in the interior of São Paulo, a spacious garden of over 2,000 m² harmonizes with the architecture of a home designed by Marcelo Couto Arquitetura.

The landscaping, a collaboration between Couto and the agronomist and landscape designer Rodrigo Oliveira, features a water mirror, pool, and spa with natural elements seamlessly integrated.

The lush greenery, comprising native species, softens the architectural lines and provides a sense of warmth and connection. The garden, strategically designed for privacy, connects the social and intimate areas.

Despite being just three years old, the vegetation thrives with minimal maintenance. Landscaping, breaking the architectural rigidity, humanizes the space and brings nature inside the home.

Architecture and landscaping complement each other seamlessly in this project located in Itupeva, in the interior of São Paulo. Like the movements of a choreography, the vegetation embraces, covers, sustains, and softens the straight lines of the facade. The photogenic visual is the result of the partnership between architect Marcelo Couto, the author of the architectural project, and agronomist engineer Rodrigo Oliveira.

Of the 2,698 m² of the lot, the green occupies 2,122 m². The generous dimensions, which depending on the chosen species and layout, could give the feeling of coldness, provide the opposite effect: a sense of warmth and connection. In addition to the privileged location, the central block referred to by the professional is formed by inviting elements, such as a water mirror, a deck, and benches to enjoy the garden up close.

In the social entrance, landscaping frames the architecture without hiding the basalt stone wall with white cement finish. The same stone was used on the floor, permeated with emerald grass. Embracing the trunk of the Samanea tree, there are masses of undulating philodendron and liriopes as ground cover. In the background, cicas and moss bamboo.

Although implemented only three years ago, the vegetation grows vigorously. Much of this behavior is due to Rodrigo’s preference for the use of native species. There are white ipê, Samanea, Sapucaia, as well as guaimbês and undulating philodendrons. Due to the right choices, the garden grows naturally, requiring little maintenance beyond the removal of dry leaves.

The central patio connects the blocks of the social and intimate areas. In it, the cumaru wood deck has a metallic guardrail with electrostatic paint. Among the species arranged in the space are white ipês, guaimbês, and undulating philodendrons.

Around the pool, spa, and even on the slab, there are gatherings of plants that define the project’s atmosphere: Landscaping breaks the rigidity of the architecture, deconstructs the austere lines and large blocks, humanizing the environments and bringing greenery into the house. On the slab, the carpet formed by green Texas grass and goat’s beard grass is a spectacle in itself.
