The William Gates Building is the University of Cambridge Computer Faculty’s new home now that it has outgrown its city centre accommodation, and includes research, teaching, library and catering facilities for 300 students.

Gillespie Kidd & Coia were a famous Scottish architecture office that designed in the Modernist style. Most of their buildings are in Scotland, though they did do a few designs for sites in England. Their most notable work is St Peter’s Seminary in Cardross.

The building is located on the west side of Castle Street, between Northampton Street and St Peter’s Church. It was originally the Cambridge home of Jim Ede and his wife Helen, from 1956.
