Munich, June 21, 2026 – The Sechzgerstadion is a legendary and meaningful stadium. For generations of Münchners, it has been far more than a football ground. It is a place of belonging, of memory, of collective identity rooted in the Grünwalder Straße. Together with TSV 1860 München e.V., the Stadionkommission and the City of Munich, Powerhouse Company has completed a feasibility study exploring how this beloved stadium can evolve. For the club and its fans, for the neighbourhood and for the city as a whole.
A 120-year stadium icon, ready for its next chapter
‘The completed feasibility study marks an important milestone for the future of the Sechzgerstadion: a future home for 1860 that is authentic to the club, meaningful to supporters and connected to Munich.’
Gernot Mang, President, TSV 1860 München e.V.
Within the existing footprint, the vision improves capacity, circulation and the matchday experience:

Growing with the city
The study investigates what the Sechzgerstadion could become: a venue with capacity for up to 27,000 spectators, improved acoustic performance and thoughtful noise mitigation. But also something more: a home for TSV 1860 that opens itself up to everyday city life, with new community, civic and commercial functions that make the stadium relevant and welcoming beyond matchdays.
The ambition is not to impose something new on a beloved place, but to grow it carefully and collaboratively into a future-oriented destination that serves supporters, residents and the wider city alike.
A new Westkurve for the same unmistakable spirit:

A true collaboration
This vision is the result of a genuine team effort. Alongside Powerhouse Company as lead consultant, the multidisciplinary team included Drees & Sommer, BreedID (structural engineering), KVL Bauconsulting (stadium advisory) and VGP (stadium development). Their combined expertise made it possible to explore the full programmatic, contextual, technical and financial complexity of the project.
New public-facing spaces along Grünwalder Straße strengthen the stadium’s connection to Giesing:

‘We are proud to have worked with TSV 1860, the Stadionkommission, the City of Munich and our partners on this integrated feasibility study. Beyond the famed football temple, the goal is to create a destination that welcomes the city, supports community life and contributes to Munich every day of the year.’
Sander Apperlo, Partner Architect, Powerhouse Company
A football landmark that has drawn generations together:

What comes next
The completion of the feasibility study is a foundation, not a finish line. The project team is now preparing the documentation for the Bauvoranfrage, scheduled for submission by the end of July. In parallel, all parties will continue to work together to define the next phases and establish a shared roadmap towards construction of renovated and extended Städtisches Stadion an der Grünwalder Straße.
