Jestico + Whiles had a rare combined appointment as architect and interior designer for this hotel set within the More London development in London between London Bridge and Tower Bridge.

This 250 room hotel is the heart of More London, a new 13-acre business community on the South Bank of the Thames which provides extensive office space and is supported by health club, cafes and restaurants within a landscaped setting.

The Hilton London Tower Bridge hotel, aimed at both business travelers and tourists, constitutes a unique building type within the masterplan.

To encourage public interaction, the Hilton London Tower Bridge public facilities open onto The Diagonal and More London Place at ground level and can be accessed independently from the hotel. Fully glazed elevations to these areas will maximise visual permeability and allow activity within the building to bring vitality to the spaces outside.

The hotel design consists of three interlinked ‘strips’, which mediate between the disparate contexts of Tooley Street’s historic Conservation Area and More London’s contemporary towers, progressing from nine storeys on Tooley Street to thirteen storeys towards the waterfront.

The SE1 London accommodation project recognises the value of incorporating leisure uses in emerging business districts to promote true regeneration, rather than desolate office ghettoes inhabited only in the daytime on weekdays.
