Network Rail’s brief for their new National Centre requires that the new building achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for its environmental performance. This has made energy efficiency and sustainability key drivers in the design process and, in addition to naturally ventilated and passively cooled office space, the building will use power and heating from the local district energy scheme.

The development will accommodate 3,000 staff in four office buildings linked by an internal street.

Network Rail’s new national centre brought together 3,000 people from across the country into an interconnected group of four buildings in Milton Keynes, known as the Quadrant:MK.

BAM had to work extremely quickly to deliver the project. The construction window was just 95 weeks, with an immovable deadline as the lease was due to run out on the client’s old premises in Euston, North London.
