National Gallery of Ireland reopens with Vermeer exhibition
The National Gallery of Ireland houses the National Collection of European and Irish Fine Art and has evolved over 150 years through a number of significant alterations and expansions, report the architects. The refurbishment of the historic wings is part of an overall master plan that aims to develop a coherent and accessible circulation system through the various layers of the Gallery.
From Rubens to Rembrandt, the National Gallery of Ireland is home to some of the world’s greatest paintings, reports the BBC.

After a multi million-pound make-over – designed by successful young Dublin architects Heneghan Peng – the gallery is reopening with a blockbuster Vermeer exhibition.

National Gallery of Ireland Reopening in Dublin
The National Gallery reopened its doors to the public on the 15th of June after six years of renovations.
The works, which saw the historic wings restored and modernised, cost approximately €30 million, reports www.dublinlive.ie.
The project kicked off in 2011 with the replacement of the Dargan wing roof, followed by the replacement of the Milltown wing roof.
A new courtyard has been built to fill the space between the wings, creating a space ideal for parties and other events.
Up-to-date heating, fire suppression and lighting systems were also installed, bringing the gallery into the 21st century.
Heneghan Peng oversaw the renovations, which were co-funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, the National Gallery, and the Office of Public Works.
