Persiana Barcelona Rope Blind

Persiana Barcelona is a product that emerges from the streets of the city that bears its name. In 2010 the architects Pau Sarquella and Diana Usón won the first prize of the Racons Públics competition with a proposal that improved the popular rope blind. The piece, with subtle adjustments in both the slat and its finishing, becomes a sustainable, innovative and modern product that addresses several urban problems such as water protection, visual protection or light opacity.

The shape of the slats allows them to overlap, like that of a tiled roof, preventing water from slipping through. In their extended position you visualize the exterior whilst the vertical position preserves visual intimacy when needed. The vertical positioning also avoids the penetration of external light, be it from solar radiation or from public lighting. Aesthetically, Persiana Barcelona is presented in a palette of varied and attractive colours, inspired by the most popular shades of the city, such as the green of Casa Milà, the beige of Casa Vicenç or the brown of Casa Planells, among others.

Persiana Barcelona, which can be purchased both in-store and online, has been widely acclaimed by both the general public and professionals in the field of architecture, interior design and construction. In addition to its usual use, it also has many possibilities to be part of facilities such as awnings, pergolas, leisure spaces or decorative assemblies. The specialist nature of its authors, the architects Sarquella and Usón, guarantees professional advice for orders that require specific solutions.

Since its launch in 2014, with a traditional production process that focuses on preserving the tradition and quality of the finish, Persiana Barcelona has become a traditional and iconic product. It has become a qualitative, practical and functional solution.

Persiana Barcelona won the Silver Delta award in 2016 and its authors obtained the Arquia / Próxima, an award that distinguishes the best young architects of Spain. In addition, Persiana Barcelona has been exhibited in multiple fairs and exhibitions in 2017 such as the International Furniture Fair of Milan or ICFF New York.

Pau Sarquella Fàbregas (Banyoles 1986) is a graduate of the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona ETSAB. Partner of the studio Sarquella + Torres Architects, currently manages Persiana Barcelona, the company he cofounded together with Diana Usón, and teaches in the International Program of Architecture and Design (INDA) at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. His constructed work has been widely published, exhibited and awarded. In 2016 he was nominated for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative program.

Diana Usón Maimó (Lleida 1986) is a graduate of the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona ETSAB. She worked in the United States as in-house architect for Areas USA (Miami, FL) for 3 years, leading the design and construction of restaurants and retail stores at US Airportts as Los Angeles, Miami and Detroit. She currently manages Persiana Barcelona, the company that she cofounded together with Pau Sarquella, and develops projects through DMB Architecture & Design, the US firm with which she recently won competitions at the airports of New York, Philadelphia and Minneapolis.
