RIBA Manser Medal Winner 2012: maison L, Yvelines, France design by architecturespossibles. The brief suggested the L-shaped general plan and the use of an indigenous stone for retaining walls. But it did not suggest half burying a series of interconnecting cave-like rooms, nor the five three-storey board-marked concrete towers that poke out of the rockery roof.

Early favourites vary wildly: the AJ state Bennetts are outsiders whilst BD state Bennetts’ library is the bookies favourite. In fact Readabet’s initial odds show it equal with Foster’s McLaren building. No mention of the Scottish Parliament, except BD’s Ellis Woodman who tips it for the Prize. Confused?!
