HIMACS transforms a wall into a work of art with the “Bionic Wall” project in the A1 building by Eva Jiřičná
Greeting visitors to the A1 office building by renowned architect Eva Jiřičná, in Rohan City in the Czech Republic, is a spectacular installation which transforms the lobby into a work of art. In this prestigious architectural context, the fondly named “Bionic Wall” becomes a compelling contemporary sculpture, made entirely of HIMACS. The project demonstrates the extraordinary thermoformability of the solid surface material through fluid 3D forms with distinctive visual impact.
The building stands on one of the main streets of the Rohan City development, on the outskirts of Prague, and is distinguished by its compact form and a fully glazed façade giving the entire structure a sense of transparency. A1 is the work of internationally renowned architect Eva Jiřičná, whose vision has resulted in a functional, contemporary and light-filled workspace.
To protect the exterior glazing, a ventilated façade made of perforated metal has been installed to not only reduce solar radiation in the warmer months, but also to lend visual dynamism to the building envelope, with an organic design inspired by the lightness of clouds and the rippling surface of water.
Similar inspiration informs the interior of the building with the dramatic “Bionic Wall” made of HIMACS Alpine White creating an unforgettable decorative feature in the reception area. Visible from the street, it also captures the attention of passers-by with its unique presence. Modelled after the Voronoi diagram, the sculpture mimics the geometric structure of cells, creating a harmony of organic forms — and an interplay between shadow and reflection as varying light conditions evolve throughout the day. This continuous but subtle transformation brings the project alive, creating a dynamic dialogue between the installation, the setting and the observer’s gaze.
The complex task of crafting the wall feature was undertaken by A.M.O.S. DESIGN, who supervised every step of the process. The entire HIMACS sculpture is anchored to the rear concrete wall via a customised load-bearing system to ensure structural stability.
The project comprehensively demonstrates the ability of HIMACS to create striking and original installations with a powerful aesthetic, through the malleability and thermoformability of the material, allowing for fluid surfaces, ambitious designs, sensuous curves and much more. Robust and non-porous, the material not only offers creative freedom, but also ensures strength and durability, together with superior hygienic, fire-retardant and stain-resistant properties. HIMACS is particularly suitable for surfaces in working environments that must withstand intensive daily use without sacrificing beauty or functionality.
The “bionic wall” is complemented by an elegant reception counter, also crafted from HIMACS in the classic Alpine White shade and characterised by sinuous shapes that echo and engage with the decorative cladding. Both are enhanced by an LED lighting system that illuminates the base of the desk, generating effects that highlight the gentle curves of the monolithic reception and the visual impact of the decorative wall.

HIMACS
The shape of your ideas

HIMACS is a solid surface material that can be moulded into any shape. It is widely used for architectural and interior applications, such as sculptural and high-performance wall cladding or kitchen, bathroom and furniture surfaces, in commercial, residential and public space projects. It is composed of minerals, acrylic and natural pigments that come together to provide a smooth, non-porous and visually seamless surface which meets the highest standards for quality, aesthetics, fabrication, functionality and hygiene – offering many advantages over conventional materials.
HIMACS provides limitless possibilities for surfacing solutions and inspires creative minds from all over the world. Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Rafael Moneo, Karim Rashid, Marcel Wanders and David Chipperfield, among others, have completed fabulous projects using HIMACS.
Proud to be at the forefront of innovation, LX Hausys made Solid Surface history with the introduction of HIMACS Ultra-Thermoforming, a pioneering formulation which pushes the boundaries of solid surface shaping to significant new levels with 30% greater thermoplastic capability, Furthermore, HIMACS Intense Ultra is a groundbreaking advance that now combines the qualities of both Intense Colour Technology and Ultra-Thermoforming.
To add to the benefits of working with HIMACS, now the iconic HIMACS Alpine White, plus a wide selection
of colours, come with SCS certified pre-consumer recycled content for a more sustainable product offering.
HIMACS uses a simple heating process to give three-dimensional thermoplastic forming capabilities, allows visually seamless designs, offers a virtually limitless range of colours and – for some shades – exhibits a special translucency when exposed to light. Although HIMACS is almost as robust as stone, it can be worked in a similar way as wood: it can be sawn, routed, drilled or sanded.
HIMACS is made using a next-generation technology, the thermal cure. The temperature reached during the manufacturing process sets HIMACS apart from other solid surfaces and creates a denser surface that is even sturdier, more homogeneous and more durable, and with better resistance and superior thermoforming results.
HIMACS does not absorb humidity, is highly resistant to stains and is easy to clean, maintain and repair. HIMACS is composed from premium-quality materials, ensuring a surface that is free from harmful substances such as silica, formaldehyde, VOC emissions, and nanoparticles. Prioritising health and safety, HIMACS offers peace of mind for any environment.
Countless internationally recognised certificates attest to the quality of HIMACS in terms of ecological commitment, hygiene and fire resistance – being the first Solid Surface in the market to receive the official European Technical Approval (ETA) for façades – for the Alpine White S728 colour.
HIMACS offers a 15-year warranty for products fabricated by a Quality Club Member.
