Major works to visit include the Fendi Factory in Bagno a Ripoli design by studio Piuarch. A raised garden conceived to mend a long-standing rift in the terrain and recreate the hillside of the site.

Also worth noting is CENTRO*Arezzo Coop.fi by the same studio – an iconic urban landmark, but also a sustainable structure for an evolving shopping experience. The development frees itself from the conceptual dictates of the traditional shopping mall.

The project was created with the intention of transforming the strong physical limitations, in a series of architectural cues; the available surface is in fact quite limited in size and characterized from a trapezoidal shape and has a possibility of building relatively limited; the building area is inserted in an urban environment characterized by a low quality and from a certain density of the buildings.

The project comes from the tender launched in October 2007 for the redevelopment of disused area outside the historic centre of Florence, and in particular in the vicinity of the old rail-station Leopolda, and the Royal Park of the “Cascine”.

Mr. Betsky’s presentation marks the conclusion of ARTLANDS Tour #2, the program of conferences and walks in the Florentine Plane which Image (www.image-web.org) started last year to provide knowledge and insights into the new landscape proposals suggested by the works carried out by biologist Carlo Scoccianti and aimed at defining new natural environments through the reclamation and alteration of the territory.
