The client, a couple well engaged with the local community, wanted to build a through-life house that would engage with the surrounding landscape, with a construction process that would draw from the local trades.
Outstanding team required to deliver the design for the first new crossing of the River Avon in the World Heritage City of Bath for over 100 years. The bridge design will provide fully connected development of a previously overlooked quayside district linking it to the city centre.
Architect: BBM Sustainable Design. From a distance this looks like an ordinary contemporary town house. However when one gets nearer and sees carpet tiles used as wall cladding, it becomes clear this is a project with an interesting agenda.

This small discreet building serves as a space to work, sew, play guitar and sleep in.It is built into the side of a steep hill below an accessible, flat, sedum roof perforated with flat roof-lights. Whilst modest in scale, it possesses a clear and positive presence.
