Glenmorangie breaks ground on multi-million-pound new still house
5th July 2018: Glenmorangie today broke ground on a new still house, part of a multimillion pound expansion designed to position the single malt whisky for a strong, successful future. This significant investment in the Highland Distillery, which this year celebrates its 175th anniversary, will enable Glenmorangie to meet soaring global demand for its award-winning single malt Scotch whisky.
The ceremony was led by Marc Hoellinger (middle), CEO and President of The Glenmorangie Company, which owns the Distillery, and Philippe Schaus (left), CEO of parent company Moët Hennessy. Also present was Mike Horner (right) of Blyth + Blyth engineering consultancy, which will oversee construction. Work is due to start immediately, for completion in 2019.

Highland single malt whisky marks its 175th anniversary year with a new still house
Glenmorangie today broke ground on a new still house, part of a multi-million-pound expansion designed to position the single malt whisky for a strong, successful future. This significant investment in the Highland Distillery, which this year celebrates its 175th anniversary, will enable Glenmorangie to meet soaring global demand for its award-winning whisky.
The ceremony was led by Marc Hoellinger, CEO and President of The Glenmorangie Company, and Philippe Schaus, CEO of its parent company Moët Hennessy.
Established in 1843, Glenmorangie is renowned as an industry leader, marrying skill and creativity to craft exceptional whisky. Bolstered by investment, the single malt has enjoyed sustained growth in recent years. The new still house will allow Glenmorangie to increase its capacity in line with ever-greater demand from discerning drinkers around the world.
Located in the heart of the Distillery, the new building will operate in tandem with the existing still house, showcasing two more of Glenmorangie’s signature copper stills – the tallest in Scotland. A separate building will provide additional mashing and fermentation facilities. Demolition work has already begun on the site. Construction, overseen by Scottish engineering consultancy Blyth+Blyth, is due to begin immediately, with completion scheduled for 2019.

About Glenmorangie’s plans:
The new still house will contain two more of Glenmorangie’s signature copper stills (one wash still, one spirit still). Renowned as the tallest in Scotland, these stills have necks more than 5m (16ft) high. As tall as an adult male giraffe, they allow only the finest vapours to reach the top, for a wonderfully pure spirit.
The building will be located at the heart of the Glenmorangie Distillery, adjacent to the existing still house. Designed to regenerate a site currently occupied by a disused store, plans also include a building to provide additional mashing and fermentation facilities.
The Distillery held a public consultation to give the local community their say, in January 2018. Planning permission was granted in March, with work due to be completed in 2019. The Distillery will run as normal during the project – and remain open to visitors.
