Exploring the creativity of Cartier and its links with the history of flight and design in the early twentieth century, Cartier in Motion, an exhibition curated by Norman Foster, marks the opening year of the new Design Museum in London.
Design: SOM / Pace. A unique shading system is implemented to overcome extreme heat, the design of which achieves this goal whilst ensuring each building retains an original and culturally appropriate identity.
Architects: HEIM Design. The Chongqing delegation to the National People’s Congress suggested that the city of Chongqing be the start of the Silk Road economic belt and the hub of a 21st century maritime Silk Road, connecting the Chinese interior with the rest of the world.
Design: Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Architects. An unorthodox new building for the Rockwell Group, inspired by Cedric Price’s Fun Palace. The project received a $75m gift from Michael Bloomberg. The six storey 18,500 sqm cultural centre will be encased in a 34m-high outer shell that can slide on rails to double the ground space.
From the need to serve multiple functions, the Pastoral Center of Moscavide building design by Plano Humano Arquitectos is composed by a set of facilities that include catechesis rooms, funeral chapels, and the parish residence, and these needs.
As part of Australia’s largest annual light festival, The Buchan Group has created, re/FRACTION – an installation that shoots glittering, refracted light across Martin Place’s landmark Lloyd Rees water fountain during Sydney’s 2017 Vivid festival.
Design: Schmidt Hammer Lassen. The former industrial site renowned for its rich architectural legacy has been re-emerging as a new sustainable city district: a dense city structure with attractive urban spaces, public transport, and new buildings that complement the existing historical structures.
Design: Seeley Architects. A deep engagement with the expansive and undulating rural context of the house was the starting point for the design of the Lauriston house, with a design response that simultaneously buries into and leaps from the hilly landscape near Kyneton Victoria.
Architects: Woods Bagot. With a focus on collaboration and individuality, the building provides students with technology-rich, interactive spaces. These include a mix of formal and informal learning spaces – a dedicated base for year 7 and 8 girls, science, drama and event facilities.
