Museum of Modern Art Berlin Competition
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation has launched an international ideas competition for a new museum of modern art in Berlin.
Open to: teams of architects and landscape architects
This design contest seeks ideas for a new 14,700m² standalone structure within the German capital’s Kulturforum district.
Planned to complete in 2021, the £80m gallery will be located adjacent to Mies van der Rohe’s Neue Nationalgalerie and Hans Scharoun’s Berliner Philharmonie.

It will feature a permanent exhibition of modern artworks and an underground tunnel to the Neue Nationalgalerie which is undergoing a £70m renewal by David Chipperfield Architects, reports the Architects’ Journal.
Expected to form a ‘unity’ with its iconic 1968 neighbour, the new building will also feature its own ‘autonomous’ entrance and identity – according to the brief.
Between 10 and 20 finalists will receive prizes – ranging from around £10,000 to £20,000 – and invitations to compete in a second contest for the design commission.

The competition jury includes Roger Diener (Diener & Diener) and Enrique Sobejano (Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos).
Participation Deadline: 8 Dec 2015, 2pm local time.
