The two-tiered structure was conceived as a large amphitheatre and can seat 33,000 spectators. It’s distinctive elliptical shape is easily recognisable and has become a landmark for the city of Astana.
This auditorium – one of the largest in the world – was awarded to Studio Nicoletti as the result of an International restricted competition. Founded in the heart of the steppes only four years after the Independence of the Country, Astana is now a decade old new capital of Kazakhstan.
Groundbreaking for the Astana National Library which sits 500 meters from the Presidential Palace has already occurred and pilings and foundations are being poured in the coming months. If all goes along to schedule then the library will be completed at the start of 2012.

Commissioned by Oriental Real Estate, part of the KazKommertsBank group, the Sofitel Almaty hotel development is located in the heart of Almaty, adjacent to the financial district. The project will enhance the urban design for one of Kazakhstan’s key centres.
Abu Dhabi Plaza is a staggered matrix of buildings with a retail and leisure podium and a hotel cluster at the base that rises to form a series of office and residential towers to the north – creating a new landmark on Astana’s skyline.
