Eilean Donnan
Location: Dornie, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands, UK
This is one of the most famous and photographed of Scottish castle buildings. Alongside Edinburgh, Stirling and Urquhart Castles it is the one most likely to appear on postcards, calendars and so on.

It is a true castle, not a Victorian deceit, and involved in battles between French, Spanish, English and Scottish troops. The setting on the loch is what really make the building, it connects back to what we think castles should look like with the bridge over a small channel of water.

As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, this historic west Scottish building is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands.
