The fish that you are getting will dictate the type of aquarium that is suitable for them. Goldfish can typically survive perfectly fine in a smaller aquarium, but aquarium experts state fish like angelfish need a much larger space to survive and be happy. The size of the aquarium is not the only thing you have to consider when it comes time to provide your fish with a proper living space.
The type of water in the aquarium is also going to make a huge difference. Some fish need to be in saltwater aquariums while others need freshwater. You cannot mix these types of fish into an aquarium because one of the species will die. Proper Lighting
When creating the environment for your fish, you have to simulate their habitat as best as possible. Most fish that are purchased are often fish that stay in shallow waters and use the sun as light. If you take that away from them, it throws off their natural instincts as animals.
Therefore, you have to light the aquarium in a way that simulates natural lighting. When nighttime hits and fish would normally sleep, you have to make sure that you are turning the light off as well. When the aquarium goes dark, it signals to the fish that it is time for them to prepare for sleep. Clean Water
You might have been able to provide the right type of water to your fish, but are you actively ensuring that the water is safe for them to be in? In an ocean or lake, this is not a problem as it is so vast everything quickly disperses.
In a tank, however, there is not much room for the excrement to go. Look into picking up a filter for the tank that will ensure that the water stays clean and safe for your fish. Along with that, you will also need to clean the tank itself every now and then unless you buy something that can assist you with that as well. Don’t allow your fish to swim in filth, get them the clean water that they deserve for survival.
The Proper Water Temperature
The next thing that you have to worry about for your fish is the temperature and flow of the water itself. It is not good enough to just throw some water into a tank. Fish Food
The final thing that you have to worry about for your fish are the types of foods that they are going to be eating and how much. One of the interesting things that they have discovered with fish, is that they are unaware when they no longer need food. Take the time to read up on how much food each one of your fish needs and develops a plan to feed them all. Fish don’t need to eat too often either, so check what times you should be feeding them.
These are all important things to consider when it comes time to accommodate your fish with its basic needs. Treat your fish like any other living being and give it a space you feel that it would enjoy and be comfortable in. Do not take it for granted and do not treat it poorly either.
